City Suburban Middle Class Man
(Schmidt)

It's Friday afternoon his work is done,
it's car wash time and it's a lot of fun,
the slippers lying ready, the papers lying there,
what could be better than sipping at his beer,
his wife is in the kitchen the Sunday joint prepared,
the flowers have been watered and tea time is so fair,
and Grandma coming down, the children being there
they're all together now, there's nothing more to care,

But sometimes the world is not so fine as it seems to be, he closes his eyes to all this misery,
but it's alright-it's alright- it's alright- it's alright
for the City Suburban Middle Class Man he's doing his job as best as he can,
the City Suburban Middle Class Man, he's trying so hard to understand.

He's been voting for the Tories since he was young,
supporting law and order is a lot of fun,
he proudly struts along his semi-detached home,
his salary is good, he even owns two phones,
on Sunday afternoon supports the local team,
he reads the Daily Telegraph and newspaper magazines,
and on his bedroom wall hangs a picture of the queen,
and on his bedroom wall hangs a picture of the queen.
