Main Street
(Schmidt)

Crowds of people moving down along Main Street,
the ice cream vendor's so busy- sold out that day,
the old ragged beggar still stretching his hand out on Main Street
the barber still talking the gossip of the day.

The town whore awaiting a customer down along Main Street
her make -up disguises the wrinkles all over herf ace,
the children are playing as always down along Main Street,
nobody cares if they're home early or late.

Those people living here-they are like you and me,
the yare dreaming of a change- a change that will never co me toMain Street

The city cop is doing his job down on Main Street,
he can't see all the criminals passing by,
the dealer has found another victim on Main Street,
in a far away corner another junkie must die.
